Bomb! Double daylily on silk

Dear blog readers. With this post I show the highest point of my arts on silk. Today I done my long dream to paint a double daylily on silk. But don't imagine, that this could look so great.
I used mixed contours. White for bloom and black for leaves. As result it looks just perfect. White color make bloom pop out of background and move in first plan of painting. What makes me surprise is my try to add green edges with cosmic green (which on silk looks like simple light green color) and just a little of green, which I use for leaves. Mix that very fast with yellow and cosmic green I make nice edges and perfect throat. Throat give more realistic view for my art. And in the end, when colors was dry, I take small brush and add veins.
So everything was in this art work. All my experience in silk painting help me today to make a perfect work.
Here is one more photo of it:

Bearded iris

Today I try new contour. In early morning I went in centre of my city to get more reserves of contour. My black contour is coming to end. But I wanted to try and other colors. And I can say that I was a little disappointed. I think that white is white. But this one have sparkles and that make not so nice effect I expect for.
But in if not a contour it looks great for me.

Iris

One more of today. Looks like I have nice inspiration day now. Second art work in the same day is not very rare, but not casually. All the time I paint flowers on silk I wanted to paint modern Siberian iris. And today is that day.
This one sketch I start few months back. But today, while gladiolus painting drying I continue to paint sketch of this one. When I take off silk with gladiolus painting out of frame I just add new silk and start painting.
At first I done blue standards (top of iris bloom) and style. Then falls. I just try to add contrastic colors in the same area. It looks more unique that in separated gaps. When all dry's I took smallest brush I have and add those lines. (when color is dry, then you can add anything and those colors not split together). So that give form and shape for blooms.

Gladiolus on silk

This is my first try when I paint gladiolus and also first time when I paint it on silk. Results was good enough for me.
My first idea of color was light yellow base and very light purple edge, but first I add purple and can't make it any lighter, so paint all blooms with strong purple edges and yellow to orange base. Red centre just make it looks more like true gladiolus. I can say that to paint a sketch of gladiolus I took about 6 hours, but to place it on silk and color it I have the same 6 hours. So 12 hours for this simple look glad's.
And here is few close up photos.

Majority part of my silk flutters

I will post all my silk works. I want to have them in one place and show you my growing in this area. In that case I add photos by date from first ones to today works.
And her I start my silk work exhibition. As I mention Exhibition, my first paintings on silk was good enough for exhibition. So I paint 6 artworks, teacher frame them and take to youth exhibition in museum.
This is my very first try to paint on silk. In this photo you see table from school. It is on frames, because only with frames I can dye silk colors on silk. Sketch I take from internet. This was first and the last time when I use someone sketch.
This is not the second one, but the last of those 6 which teacher exposit in museum.
And here is all three on wall in museum. Nice to see at my artworks with frames and in special place. Then I feel really honored.
This is something newer while looking in those first. From now I show all my silk works where I work by myself, without help or even advices. Just do what I think is good. This feature give me more unique works and free work with silk.

Here is something unusual. In special kit for silk painting, which I got from great my friend was special salt for silk. I wonder how to use it, so paint background and split that salt on it. What a magic happens. With salt I created unique background. But this is first and the last work with salt. I think that I found some other ways to create unique works. (This I gift for my friend)

These two is out of the same sketch, but color variation manes it look very unusual. Just form the same. Now both was in States.
I love this one, because I try to mix two colors on one bloom without using contour for different colors. Look amazing for me. Now in States too.
Well this one is something what worth to say more than just one line. This one I painted as a gift for one great friend, who I can mention like my mentor. William Marchant few years in the row gave me some his left seeds of amazing lines of seedlings. And last year he send amazing seedlings from Rose F. Kennedy. So I decided to make something back to him. I think that William now enjoy this work of his seedling on silk from me.
And here is my first order for Debbie Friedlander. She asked to paint this one as a gift for her husband. I am sad and a little disappointed of myself, that this look a little different than real Chief Weeder.
And this is the most warmest gift which I painted. This is for my best friend, great mentor - Claudia Conway. This is her seedling which she very proud. I am also love it very much. So I painted it on silk and gift it.
These are just few from other order which place great person in daylily world - Mick Morry. He asked to paint 6 daylilies which photos he send to me. All money for them he send directly to Floyd Cove Nursery where Claudia start to place an order. These are first works where I add leaves. Nice looking. Hope Mick and Morry family likes it.
This is Racing The Moon. Daylily which I dream about and hope that when I sell this can order that daylily. Can't remember if this one is sold, but Racing them Moon I have in my garden now. I can say that in real that variety looks better than in my silk work. And one of the Prism. But for that we have not enough money. Maybe next time.
This is amazing order from Floyd Cove Nursery owners. They asked to paint these two for extra money for order. I done Staying Alive better than Born to be Wild. But from replay from them I see them both hanging in living room. So that is great honor for small artist to have his paintings in famous persons home.
This is great art work (photo by C.Conway) which I paint out Floyd Cove introduction to raise some money for order of daylilies. And I am pleased that this one was sold in lilyauction for my great friend, who work with teeth daylilies - John Kulpa.

This is how it looks when I got inspiration. In one week I done 4 great paintings. Just love them all and hope that these will bring me some money for 2014 order of daylilies.
And this is iris on silk. After long break without painting them on silk I come back and paint one. Just after few minutes when I post it in few Facebook groups, people start to comments and say how great it looks. Then I feel really honored to show it and done it so well. So hope that I might can work with irises the same like with daylilies...

Thanks for looking and good luck.

From sketch to framed artwork on silk

At first I make sketch on simple paper. Then remove that sketch to other paper to left only perfect lines. For that I use special paper with ink.
Then take perfect sketch under silk, which is in frames. Silk must be very tight before I start to work with it. With pencil I take sketch on silk.
Then one of the hardest work to do. With special contour for silk I have to cover all pencil lines. Important that all black contour has to be in touch with each other line. If any area is missed, then colors split from that area to other and work will be worth nothing.
When everything is done, checked few times for extra mistakes, which can be bad for my artwork. Then let it dry. It must be all perfectly dry, because silk colors have water and that can mix with black contour and make dark marks in work (I trash some works which has those marks, then I don't know that 3 hours on fireplace is not enough). And when it dry I dye colors on it. If silk is tight enough them color split very well. Just take one drop of colors and it split until touch edge of contour. In my latest works I start mix few colors in one area. So put yellow on center line and then green on edges, when it all mixed it looks just like this.

After some work with silk flowers I found my own way to work. At first I color all leaves. That give some relaxing color for me to work next.
Then color bloom. That is the most important place in my art works. I take all my attention on it. As for this I put yellow base color and while that is still wet I add with smaller brush (1 number) orange lines, some light purple and green to the edge and throat. I have to mix them very fast and well. Colors dry fast and if I add orange on dry location that orange let be just a line and not very nice line.

Then work with background. If I by accident split one color under the edge of right place for that color, then I can fix with darker background color. But in latest works I don't need that. I just do that well enough.
Dark background give the view that this is in real. Green leaves goes out of silk and bloom just look like cover those leaves and look amazing.
As silk colors dry fast so in few hours I can be sure that my art work is done. This is how it looks while it is till on frames. I found my way to add sign with colors of silk, not contour. Then it looks not so eye catching part in the work.

Then I use special kit to remove silk tighter's. And when all those was removed, I take silk out of frame and this is done. Then I use sissors to remove edge which not fill in frame. Take a glass frame and frame it.
And this is how it looks when it goes on frames. This is not A4 size, just a little bigger (22,5 x 33 cm).
